Increase In Minimum Wage in Thailand Effective This Year
The Department of labour Protection and Welfare, Ministry of Labour and Employers stated that the minimum wage to the employee under the new rates has been implemented since the start of this year, January 1 2017.
The Wage Committee has announced the increase of minimum wages from 5-10 Baht a day in 69 province nationwide last year. Thailand’s currently minimum wage is 300 baht and the increase should varies between provinces. Meanwhile eight provinces will not get an additional and remain unchanged at 300 baht per day.
7 provinces with of 10 baht increase;
Bangkok, Nakhon Pathom, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon and Phuket.
49 provinces with 5 baht increase;
Mae Hong Son, Lampang, Nan, Tak, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Suphanburi, Petchburi, Satun, Phatthalung, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Phrae, Phetchabun, Uthai Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Kalasin, Maha Sarakham, Surin, Roi Et, Loei, Buriram, Amnat Charoen, Chai Nat, Nakhon Nayok, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Samut Songkhram, Chanthaburi, Lopburi, Sa Kaeo, Trat, Sukhothai, Uttaradit, Lamphun, Phayao, Ubon Ratchathani, Nakhon Phanom, Beung Kan, Nong Bua Lamphu, Mukdahan, Yasothon, Chiang Rai, Phitsanulok, Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Nakhon Sawan, Chaiyaphum, Ang Thong and Si Sa Ket.
13 provinces with of 8 baht increase;
Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Prachin Buri, Chon Buri, Rayong, Sa Kaeo, Saraburi, Chachoengsao, Chiang Mai, Songkhla, Surat Thani and Krabi and, Ayutthaya and Phang Nga.
And 8 provinces that will remain unchanged in minimum wage include Nakhon Si Thammarat, Trang, Ranong, Chumphon, Sing Buri, Narathiwat, Pattani and Yana.
The Wage Committee chairman stated that the wage adjustment is in accordance with the Labor Protection Act and through the consideration of ten crucial factors including the cost of living, inflation, production cost, labor productivity, and national GDP.
Department of Labour Protection and Welfare requires Employers’ to abide by the law. Failure to comply with these policies and procedures may result to a fine not exceeding one hundred thousand bath to both or guilty by a term of imprisonment not exceeding six months.
